DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS OF TECH OFFICIALS

Tech Officials must adhere to all rules as outlined in the current season’s rulebook. Both Tech Officials must be at the event at least 1 ½ hour before the start time. Work as a team – one official advise promoter on track condition and make recommendations as necessary to assure that the track will be in proper condition. Other official is at scales weighing vehicles checking kill switches and putting on tie straps. Do visual inspections for safety rules or specific class rules. Tech Officials are responsible for putting flags on sled cones on track and displaying any banners that may be involved due to sponsors, also picking up at the end of the event. Coordinate radios for next scheduled tech officials. Verify that sled being used has a current sled inspection on file. Tech Officials must be mechanically inclined. Attend tech official meeting and training prior to season starting. Tech Officials must also rotate ends of the track between each class.

OPERATION OF CONTEST

All pulls will start with a tight chain. No jerking allowed. On the first attempt there will be a three (3) minute time limit to hook to the sled after the sled is ready.

Number one (1) official puller (first vehicle hooked to the sled after sled is deemed official) will be the test puller and may take pull or puller may re-pull in any position. All other pullers will go back to original position or bottom of the class. Must inform Tech Official of decision before leaving track. If test vehicle breaks before completing an official pull as described in rule 3, the next vehicle up becomes the test puller and will have the option to drop. The class is official when Tech Official determines sled is set properly. Tech Officials will make this decision on or before the 4th hook in each class. If the sled is reset then all the pullers that have already hooked will return at the end of the class in the order in which they already pulled. In the event of a sled malfunction in which repairs or modifications result in a possible change in the operations of the sled, the class will be started over with the next registered vehicle becoming the test puller and the class is to be run as described above. If the class is stopped for a significant amount of time (30-45 Min.) for any reason the class is to be started over the same as a sled malfunction.

Pullers will be allowed two (2) consecutive attempts (back to back attempts, may not leave the track) and 50 feet to start the sled on a 200 foot or shorter track and two (2) consecutive attempts and 75 feet on a 201 foot or longer track. On the second consecutive attempt, pullers will be allowed a 3-minute time limit for adjustments, starting from the time the sled is spotted for second attempt. If on the first attempt the vehicle breaks, the puller will be allowed to drop five places and return for the second attempt if repairs can be made.

Vehicles, not the sled, must remain within side boundaries (after class is official) of contest course during pull or will be disqualified. If any part of the vehicle touches or extends past any part of the out of bounds line during or after the pull is complete, the puller will be deemed out of bounds. Contest course considered width (as marked) and track length.

If the driver is not ready when his turn comes up, due to mechanical problems, he will be able to drop five (5) places in the class or forfeit. Mechanical problem is to be confirmed by Tech Official before vehicle is allowed to drop.

In the event of a malfunction (sled, etc.) puller has the option to drop five (5) places or pull right then.

Under a green flag, if a puller loses a weight or safety equipment, vehicle is disqualified.

Driver is to weigh with the vehicle. Top four (4) vehicles are subject to be reweighed at any time. Vehicles original weight will be the class weight or less. At any time after a vehicle pulls it and it is sent back to the scales to reweigh, there will be an allowance of no more than 20#. To verify scales, Tech Officials can send a minimum of three vehicles back across the scales to be reweighed.

Adhere to the Tech Officials at all times. Anyone striking the Tech Official or should a problem of any nature arise, whether caught cheating or someone causing trouble, contestant and vehicle may be denied participation by a majority vote of the Board of Directors for any period of time to be determined by The Board.

No one allowed on the track after green flag except contestant and track officials. Track boundaries defined as track at 15 ft. in any direction. Any infraction is grounds for disqualification.

When contestant completes the pull they must move the vehicle away from the end of the track. Contestant will be warned one time, the second time that contestant may disqualified at the Tech Officials discretion.

Any vehicle or contestant judged unsafe by the Tech Officials and board members will be prohibited from pulling until unsafe condition is corrected.

Tech Official has the right to determine the legality of the vehicles at any time. They can open the hood at any time or make any visual or audible inspection. Tech Officials cannot do fuel checks, pumping of engine or etc., unless said vehicle is under protest. The Tech Committee has the right to make all the decisions regarding these rules.

All vehicles must pull on and off the track under their own power, unless apparent breakage or temperature is in excess of 230 degrees. This is left to the discretion of the Tech Official. No exceptions or contestant will be disqualified.

Tech Official has the option to pick someone to start the pull until he is available.

In the event of a tie, there must be a pull off. No coin tosses. This is mandatory. This only pertains to a tie for first (1st) place.

In a pull off situation, the pull off will be run in the same order as the class finishes. One attempt only, no dropping for mechanical or test hook.

A predetermined finish line will be established not to exceed 300 feet. In the event of a pull off, a floating finish line may be used, space permitting.

All vehicles will receive one hook per class.

Rain Out Rule: An official class is when 100% of original entry has made an attempt. In the event 100% of the pull order is not completed, all contestants will receive 5 hook points and paying contestants will be at the discretion of the promoter. In the event of a pull off, if pull off is not completed, all monies and points will be combined and split equally among those in the pull off. The remainder of the monies and points will be awarded as the class placed. All contestants entered in classes that have not been completed will receive 5 hook points and entry fee returned. Any classes not completed due to any circumstance will be treated as a RAINOUT.
